Join us as Dr. Kuersten shares her experiences working with her students assisting the Michigan State Police with cold cases!
Registration Required
In 2019, WMU Professor Ashlyn Kuersten created an experience-driven program that helps prepare Broncos for successful careers in law and law enforcement. The WMU Cold Case Program with the Michigan State Police gives students training in forensic science, law and criminal investigation techniques. Students then assist detectives in their investigations of cold case homicide and missing person investigations. By assisting detectives in their investigations, the students learn investigative skills by reviewing case files that are decades old.
In 2022, Dr. Kuersten’s “Scooby Doo Crew” assisted detectives when they solved a 35-year old cold case murder of a young woman in Niles, Michigan. The following year, her students helped detectives in solving yet another homicide case of a young woman in Three Rivers, Michigan. This work was featured on The Today Show, 48 Hours, and People Magazine.
