This interactive presentation discusses the importance of functional literacy, the current state of literacy levels in both Kalamazoo and the U.S., and what we can do as a community to fix this issue.
Join us for an evening with the Kalamazoo Literacy Council where participants will learn through an interactive presentation why functional literacy is so important to our community. There will be information about the current state of literacy levels in the Kalamazoo area and across the United States and a chance to learn how we, as a community, can help to improve literacy levels. If you haven't heard of the Kalamazoo Literacy Council before or don't know much about what they do, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about this valuable member of our community.
The Kalamazoo Literacy Council offers free services such as English as a Second Language classes, one-on-one tutoring, health and financial literacy classes, and much more. Their website lists the many programs that they offer as well opportunities to volunteer with them if you are interested in getting involved.
All participants are welcome. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Sara Weyenberg at sweyenberg@portagelibrary.info or (269) 585-8710 in advance of your visit.
